january recap [2018]

HELLO FEBRUARY!!!

hurray and yay - January is over!! In case you are wondering why, I'm just looking forward to warmer days when I get to go out more. Being at home because of rain is four fifths of the month occurrence here.

so ... moving on ...

on the page ...
  • I actually ... did read quite a lot?
  • the best american travel writing and the conde nast traveller book of unforgettable journeys vol. II.
  • they were informational, educational, adventurous ...
  • one can learn plenty about culture, history, and writing from them ...
  • but sometimes, I found, stupidity masqueraded as adventurousness ...
  • also it was so observational that it came of as apathetic D:
  • everything was viewed as culture and art - not right or wrong or how this affects the human beings??
  • how to be a travel writer was everything you need to know in a concise little gorgeous  book
  • it was one of my late-arriving Christmas presents
  • ok but two of our books ordered for Christmas presents got lost in the mail (whaaat)

The Best American Travel Writing 2013     The Conde Nast Traveler Book of Unforgettable Journeys: Volume II: Great Writers on Great Places     How to Be A Travel Writer (Lonely Planet)

  • I also tried to read how to train your dragon!!
  • I borrowed the four first books and I ... skim-read ...
  • I'm not counting them for this month's books read though because I didn't actually finish them??
  • the movies were sooo much better (sorry)
  • and the books were waaaay more obnoxious (like ... don't read before meal times)
  • but I can draw parallels between the book and movie so?
  • I think Cressida Cowell had an A+ sense of humor
  • this is something I'd be playing with my sister in a game lol

How to Train Your Dragon (How to Train Your Dragon, #1)    How to Be a Pirate (How to Train Your Dragon, #2)    How to Speak Dragonese (How to Train Your Dragon, #3)    How to Cheat a Dragon's Curse (How to Train Your Dragon, #4)

  • what light was light and fluffy and 100% Christmassy
  • renegades was mostly awesome (except for an issue or two *sigh*)
  • I'm glad I have it, though, because I can reference to it when I write my superhero story
  • also marissa meyer IS still one of my favorite author so ...
  • then there was wuthering heights, and rereads of let me be a woman and in 27 days (aloud to my sis for the third time haha) and I began an ember in the ashes!!
  • i beta read seek too (that counts, yes?)

What Light    Renegades (Renegades, #1)    Wuthering Heights    An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1)

  • AND ME AND MY SISTERS ARE FINISHING THE WINGS OF FIRE SERIES
  • before the 11th book is released this summer that it lol
  • moon rising, winter turning (as audio book), escaping peril, talons of power and darkness of dragons
  • YOU NEED TO GO READ THIS ALL ASAP
  • I'm actually drafting a post as to why you should ...
  • and some friends began an epic book chat on hangouts so it's always a good thing to go fangirl XD

Moon Rising (Wings of Fire #6)   Winter Turning (Wings of Fire, #7)   Escaping Peril (Wings of Fire, #8)

Talons of Power (Wings of Fire, #9)   Darkness of Dragons (Wings of Fire #10)

in the notebooks ...

  • ha. ha. ha. ha.
  • ^^ that means nothing was accomplished
  • I also blame school
  • and being sick
  • I was working on Broccoli Queen but not quite as much as I would have wanted to
  • oh well TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY (what I mean is, it's a new month to try to accomplish things hurray)
  • I didn't quite get to write 30 pages of the three new wips I mentioned in the "2018 goals" post but ...
  • I did get some plotting done so that I can start more earnestly now XD
  • in case you are wondering, I'll just reveal the titles: made of dust, the first boy toothfairy, and the 101st human
  • I love my titles ^.^

on the playlist ...
  • this is kind of a totally new section XD

in #life ...
  • went to a wedding for the first time in 15 years
  • wow
  • was sick for a week and missed two days of work and had feverish dreams about disasters occurring there because I was not present (hahaha)
  • putting my 2018 planner into full use!!
  • got string for my guitar (which some friends randomly gave on Christmas eve)
  • my dad's tuning it and I'm trying to self-teach myself here (hey, be proud of me, Abbie lol)
  • studying all about job interviews and resumes and employers' responsibilities
  • in science: how humans are polluting the world
  • wish me luck with all my school
on the blogosphere ...

on inkwell ...

  3. Amazing post! I love how you formatted it, honestly. (I agree about the httyd books and movies because I've done soooo much research on the books, I know what's in them and I hear a lot about them, so T.V/movie is sometimes better. (I know, I'm a bad bookdragon.)

That exerpt from Sarah's post is just *heart eyes*

Have a spectacular February. I hope you're feeling better.

  6. First off, I LOVE THIS FORMATTING. The bulletting does make it pretty easy to read. :D And I don't feel like I have to slug through long long long long paragraphs. ;)

WINGS OF FIRE!!! That series was so so amazing. I didn't finish the second series of Wings of Fire though (future-telling and other mystical stuff that I don't like to read) but those books are soooooooooooooo good. :D

And you're learning guitar? I love guitar. :D

*cough* I joined the blogosphere too. ;) XD That was a great thing that happened. But I also had pancakes. So that was pretty exciting. And I finished a novel. Life is good.

    Great wrap-up post!

YES WINGS OF FIRE!! I'm so happy you think so too! We enjoy it SOOO much! and yeah, the later five books were more complicated and full of mystical things and though I really liked them, I can understand your point of view :D Did you read about Prince Winter though? HE'S MY BABY <3

YES I'M LEARNING GUITAR! It's a great instrument, isn't it?

OH MY GOODNESS YES I SO INTENDED TO INCLUDE YOU IN MY POST BUT IT'S SO HARD TO REMEMBER EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED!!?? 8. Hey, the jot notes (bullet points?) are great!!! I love using them myself, either for blogging or just writing lists - they get everything in a nice little order. :)

I just had my instruments restrung in January (or was it late December? I don't remember...) as well. I've been playing for years, but I still have trouble doing strings myself. I mean, I /can/ do them, but I have so little coordination, it comes out pretty badly. Still playable, and they don't slip or anything, but it ain't as neat and pretty. Plus I just didn't have the time. So I had them professionally done...but now I'm a happy girl with clean new strings!

    1. *high five* YEAH I JUST GOT OBSESSED WRITING BULLET POINTS A MONTH OR TWO AGO ... you might see it pop up a lot in my blogging from now on lol

AHHH YOU SHOULD DO A RECORDING FOR US TO HEAR!! Is it a guitar or ...?? Another stringed instrument? My dad is my pro so HAHA HE DID THE JOB FOR ME. I'm happy you got it professionally done! I wish you all the beautiful playing! ^.^

    1. THANKS CATH!

Ok here is a funny story ... I bought The Beggar Queen in early December for my mom for Christmas and waited and waited and waited and waited AND IT JUST NEVER CAME. So we got a refund and ordered again. THE SECOND ORDER CAME IN A WEEK OR SO. And two days after the second one arrived THE FIRST ONE CAME TOO. -_- so now my mom has two editions XD

OH I'M GLAD YOU LIKE THAT SONG! It's so encouraging!

  10. Great recap, Lisa! I think that the formatting was really neat - it was like following your thoughts from one topic to another.

And another person who enjoys Wings of Fire! I've reread the series a few times (mostly right before I read a new book because it's been so long and I can't remember everything), and it's one of my comfort series. There's an eleventh book? Oh boy - it looks like it will never end!

Also, just wanted to say, I really like that quote at the end of this post! Very inspiring.

YOU LIKE WINGS OF FIRE TOO?? That is so awesome! You are the third person I've met who likes that series! YES THERE IS AN 11th BOOK WHICH IS SO EXCITING. Which was your favorite book and favorite dragon?? *is very curious* it is totally a comfort series, yes *nods*

I'M GLAD YOU LIKED THAT QUOTE. It was from Sarah's blog ^.^

    2. Glory's book - the third one - is my go-to favorite book from the series, but I really like Quibli, too. Sunny's book was also neat, but it was a last book of the series and those always come with the bonus satisfaction of everything wrapping up. What about you?

  11. 14 books!!! Wow!I read my first Marissa Meyer book in January and loved it ^^ In January I discovered dodie and basically listened to all her music 83 times. It's amazing; check it out if you haven't already!

  13. Lisa, your bullet points through the reading section cracked me up. How to Train Your Dragon in book form wouldn’t have translated onto the screen well, but you’re right, it’s still somewhat comedic. *snap snap*

  16. Everyone keeps telling me I need to read Wings of Fire! XD Maybe I can stick it somewhere in my TBR...
Guitar strings! That's fun! I played guitar for about two weeks self-teaching myself before giving up. I think I broke a string on my dad's guitar. Yeah...I've never been much of a musical person. XD
The jot notes are a tad distracting, but the format is fun at the same time, so I guess I like them. ;) Happy February! (2 days late, lol XD)
