MEET MY NANOWRIMO NOVEL

It's day six of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and I AM SHAMEFULLY LATE TELLING YOU ALL WHAT MY NEW NOVEL IS ABOUT. So maybe, if you are part of my "cabin" or have heard me announce it in some comments, you may have a slight idea. But now for the first time will I reveal it in full! So, prepare to ...

I shall be using the Beautiful Books link-up hosted by Cait @ Paper Fury and Sky @ Further Up and Further In. I know, I know -- I AM RIDICULOUSLY LATE. But you know, LIFE.

I give all credit to Jem Jones. Once upon a time she had a bunch of Pinterest inspired superhero prompts and one of them grabbed me and never let me go. It just stuck and here I am now writing it. This was the inspiration:

What if your arch nemesis and best friend were one and the same?

They both lead two lives. Robert Cayden Steele seems to be just a poor kid raised in the gutter whose hard work has finally paid off. And what everyone thinks about Mary Anna Goodwin is that she's the only the mayor's niece, lavished with all the money she'd ever want. But that's only the surface of things.

Because when the darkness falls each night, one becomes the Fox -- bane of every high class citizen and master burglar whose robberies continue to baffle all of Delta.  And the other turns into Snow -- superhero who has sworn to take him down.

When Fox threatens to steal the mayor's 100 million dollar painting on Christmas eve, Snow jumps into action. For ages she, as well as the police's finest, have tried and failed to catch him . But not this time. There's going to be showdown, once and for all, before a hundred of the city's greatest people at the mayor's Christmas ball.

But until that happens, Fox and Snow have ordinary life to live -- as Rob and Anna who room at the same boarding house, who study in the same college ... and who becoming increasingly curious and interested in each other.

What they don't see coming though, is that soon, his enemy might be his best friend, and her best friend might be her nemesis.

feet on the rooftops // golden sunrise // neon nightlights // white vs. red // rundown boarding house // rain on the eaves // cobbled streets // first snows // coffee shops // washing dishes at soup kitchens // clean cut college lawns // midnight dances

Also the aesthetics are all here *gestures around*

So, as you have already learned, I have two main characters -- Rob and Anna. So it's no secret that they are our two "frenemies". Rob has had a pretty rough childhood and is now the bane of the city and a master burglar, while Anna has had the most luxurious growing up years possible, but she's still a superhero. As for appearance Rob is red haired, sharp-faced (like don't ask me what that means -- all I can say about his face is that it's sharp), and always wears hoodies. Anna is white haired, with ice blue eyes, and wears pale blue and white and ... she has this clean and calm look. (And don't ask me about their superhero lives or powers -- that's secret identity you know. And NO DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT IT ISN'T AS IF I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEIR POWERS ARE OR ANYTHING. What makes you think that????)

As for my side characters, there's a ton of them. For example ...

// Anna's family. She has one brother of fourteen who is the only person in her ordinary like who knows she's a superhero. There's her fashion model mom who cannot understand her wanting to become a cop (and yes that is what she went to college for). As for her step dad, he's pretty cool with anything she does, but always sticks up to her mom and says, "Anna, your mom has a point." Nothing more than that XD

// There's their other two housemates, Max and Ashleigh. Max is an incredibly enthusiastic funny character who goes into fan boy mode when he discovers who Anna is (that is, mayor's niece). Ash is a really sweet nice girl who grew up in similar areas as Rob -- except her family was there to help the poor people and the street kids. Like she wasn't actually a poverty stricken person herself. The old lady who owns the house appears really grumpy at first but she really has a heart of gold and loves cooking for her students XD

// I also have some of Snow's superhero friends ... but that would take a long time to explain ;D Let's just say she knows a water-walker, and a guy who morphs into a tom-cat. Plus others of course, not that I have them figured out. Ha.

I was supposed to do research before beginning this. Did I? You guessed it. #NOPE. But heh yes I DID ACTUALLY OUTLINE THIS TIME. For the first time in forever. I did a brain dump of all my ideas and sorted them out on paper ... then did a table of contents and threw various interesting events into each chapter. I have every chapter summed up in one line ... so I'm done? My outline is 30 lines long and I AM SATISFIED. (I also do have other charts and lists and collages and q+a sheets but hush that doesn't even count.)

I LOOK FORWARD TO BEING DONE WITH IT. I mean, be honest, don't we all (look forward to being done with our novels, and yes, you do look forward to me being done with mine, right??)??? But in all seriousness ...

// I look forward to weaving in a more complicated plot ... with a bigger enemy, with huger stakes, with subplots and little conflicts, and twists. I have some great stuff in mind and I really want to see it surface on paper ...

// I look forward to developing my characters. I want to see my side characters become "part of the family" (you know), and my two main characters changing and evolving and developing ...

// I look forward to winning this Nanowrimo and having this all handwritten in my 500 pager green notebook and being able to ruffle through the pages and saying "HEY LOOK WHAT I'VE ACCOMPLISHED" :P

// It takes place in a huge city called Delta. It's generally a modern setting -- it doesn't have that much sci-fi elements, except the superheroes of course. So far I haven't started drawing a map but I hope to do so at some point and figure out the different areas of the city. All I know is that my characters are living in the central area ... whilst Snow's family lives in the wealthy district in the North, and Rob comes from the South ...

// Delta is a huge city, so like all regular huge cities, it has two sides. The luxurious rich beautiful side as well as the dark dirty slum-like side and I hope to explore both worlds in my book.

// It also alternates between the streets and ground level and the rooftop level. My superheroes live on the rooftops, pretty much. And I visualise my whole city from the sky -- all bathed in sunset glory.

Lol, this questions. Most people say #spoilers. But I'll tell you anyway. Fox's (aka Rob's) goal is, of course, to steal that 100 million dollar painting, and guess who stands in the way? Snow. And Snow has sworn to take him down and not let him steal that painting and obviously he's the one who makes that hard. This much should have been apparent already XD

Well. I'm pretty sure you guys can already guess it right? The predictable storyline goes like this -- ok so the villain falls in love with the good girl and decides to become a hero too and saves her in some epic battle and she falls for him too and they both get over their prejudices and the bad guys doesn't have to pay for his crimes and they live happily ever after... I'll just leave you with this speculation for now. Honestly I'm not sure what will happen, and I know you were thinking this, even if you won't admit it. XD

Themes ... I like to have an idea what they are before I start writing. I don't really want to spell them out for you though because I think that while writers should try to weave themes into their books ... they should be implicit and for the reader to figure out. I mean, I'm not going to fault anyone for announcing their intended themes loud and clear or for writing them as explicit!! Like this is my preference for my books. :D But if you really really want to know, you can go listen to "Be the Change" by Britt Nicole because it makes me feel ... like this book ...

So, friends, looks like that is the end of that ...

My total word count for Nano so far is 12k, and I'm still pushing hard! I hope to finish this book this month (as well as Broccoli Queen but shh).

I WISH ALL THE BEST TO MY FELLOW NANOERS!
And for those of you who aren't, you can all sit back and watch the entertainment of us screaming over our deadline, and send us chocolate and cheer on the sidelines XD

ANYWAY. WHAT'S YOUR NANO WIP?
HOW'S YOUR WRITING GOING?
WHAT'S YOUR WORD COUNT SO FAR?
also can you send that chocolate over ...???
