DAWN CHANDLER by Eliza Noel

You might have seen this book going around on blog tour lately, but if you haven't (or even if you did) welcome to the last day of the tour, and hope you'll enjoy reading my review!!

I "met" Eliza so early on in my blogger life that I can't quite remember how - probably when we were both beta readers of Abigayle Claire's Andora's Folly. When she revealed the cover for her first book I *gasped* - it was ILLUSTRATED AND SO PRETTY!! So I signed up for the blog tour spontaneously. HAHA.

Keep on reading to find out how I enjoyed the book ;))

DAWN CHANDLER

Dawn Chandler likes the way her life is— or was. She liked going to the mall with her best friend, excelling at middle school, and attending church with her family. Typical life for a twelve-year-old in the city of Fresno. When Dawn’s parents announced they were going to homeschool her, on her birthday no less, she felt like her world was falling apart. Normal kids are supposed to go to school, not read books at home. To make matters worse, they may be leaving the only home she’s ever known. What are her parents thinking? Before making the final moving decision, the Chandler family visits Lone Pine, a small town between Mt. Whitney and Death Valley. While there, Dawn and her siblings become acquainted with their eccentric great uncle, explore the new area, and meet a large homeschooling family. All of this makes the 'vacation' more bearable. Still, Dawn isn't sure if she can make the move and leave everything she’s familiar with behind. Can Dawn learn the values of faith, family, and contentment?

Time for the review!!

THE CHARACTERS WERE REALLY CUTE! I highly appreciated the good family relationships and sibling dynamics. The Jennings family was really nice and friendly and had a ton of kids that I couldn't keep up with :DD My favorite character was Kenneth, Dawn's brother *laughs* Dawn herself was quite a normal 12-year-old : loved hanging out with friends, doing her hair, pretty clothes, tried not to get dirty, and had attitude problems due to internal conflict haha! And I'm DEFINITELY giving points for the homeschool rep!!

THE SETTING WAS REALLY CUTE!! I like small towns a lot and I feel like *most* people were an accurate portrayal of small town friendliness. BUT THOSE SNOBBY PEOPLE. I'm annoyed. By them. Also, in my small town experience I've never met people who were snobby at city folks XD

THE PLOT WAS REALLY CUTE!!! It was mostly about Dawn's internal struggles - the plot about what-happened-in-her-life was very calm and predictable and not bumpy in the slightest. Just really pleasant and sweet and having us the audience hoping that DAWN WILL COME TO APPRECIATE THIS LITTLE TOWN which was *obviously* amazing. I mean, I wish all moves were as EASY and NICE as the Chandler's was.

I definitely appreciated the themes which were middle grade level and nicely tucked into the storyline! I felt the writing was too simple for ME, but it would probably be appreciated by younger readers. I also felt that the book fell into some cliches (snobby girl, super friendly Christians, best friend drama) but overall, nothing to be concerned about.

Other high points :

:: Mrs. Jennings turning the radio on in her car to a Skillet song in order to wake the girls up and praising herself on her evil plan ::

:: Kenneth calling Walter "Walty baby" XDD ::

:: Moriah borrowing her brother's bike to do tricks in the skate park ::

:: Dawn thinking about Walter that if her friends were there they'd giggle and dare each other to talk to him and me rolling my eyes and saying, "YOU'RE TWELVE - LEAVE MY FELLOW TEENAGER ALONE" ::

:: UNCLE WESLEY IN GENERAL ::

I proudly award this book four stars and recommend it to girls ages 8 to 14. To be perfectly honest I didn't connect to it like I do to YA, just because I'm not the target audience!! But since my readers are mostly teenagers + older, I'd recommend you to TELL YOUR YOUNGER BOOK DRAGON FRIENDS/SIBLINGS ABOUT THIS!!

AND here's a giveaway as a reward for reading through my review *throws it towards you gracefully*

ABOUT ELIZA :

Eliza Noel is a home school graduate with passion for Jesus, people, and literature. Growing up, her favorite books were always Nancy Drew, Anne of Green Gables, and Pride and Prejudice. Around age twelve she wanted to read something with positive values in a modern setting, but couldn’t find what she was looking for. So she wrote it.

When not doing something book-related (reading, writing, blogging, bookstagramming), Eliza works at her day jobs, spends time with her many younger siblings, longboards, has coffee with friends, eats chocolate, and listens to music. California is home, but she would like to travel more and feels she could learn to be content anywhere.

You can follow her writing journey and see snippets of her everyday life on elizanoelauthor.blogspot.com or by following @elizanoelauthor on social media.

while we're at it, can I also encourage you all to go give the amazing cover designer a follow @lizaproch and check out the music she makes with her siblings!! I was just listening to their album while typing the review and it's really good!!

OKAY hope you all enjoyed !! go congratulate Eliza and let me know if you've read it, if you want to read it, and which little bookdragon in your life you'd recommend it to!!

have a lovely weekend!!
peace out. lis.
